Che T-Shirts

Right, just had to do this thread to try and explain the whole thing i found alot of people have here with people wearing Che T's.

Just because a person is wearing a T-shirt with his face on doesnt mean they know anything about him, hell they probally dont even know his name let alone what he has done. I find that when people see someone half famous with a Che T-shirt on, they jump to the conclusion he/she is a outright supporter of Che and what he had done thoughout his life.

The simple fact it, Che's face is now just a part of a fasion trend unfortunatly.

No it doesn't mean that they know anything about him but it doesn't mean that they are completely ignorant on Che and Communism either. If I see someone with a Che shirt that I'm talking to I'll ask them if they know who Che is and if they are ignorant and don't know anything about him then I will know that they're only wearing it for the fashion. Also i'd ask them where they got it, did they make it themsleves, did they buy it from a street vendoI woulr place etc. or did they get it at HOT TOPIC or something like that. When che's face is used by capitalists to make trendy shirt is what I think is retarted

When I first bought my first che T-shirt at HotTopic I did'nt know anything about him. (the clerk thought it was a funny shirt) but know I understand who he is and what he is and everything else, maybe the shirts are good so that kids can learn more about him.

This is the case oftentimes. Here, a lot of people wear Che shirts like it's a fashion statement. And most of them, I am sure don't know who Che really is.

OK I don't like non-leftists wearing the shirt, but lets think about it - people who wear che t-shirts might just find out who he was. Then they might start to find out that they agree with him - its a good way for people to join us. I found this site because I was looking for 'cool stuff on che,' so the myth worked for me. Sure, I had my views in place before I came here, but the principle is there.

I don't really see the point in fashion at all. If I saw a che shirt for sale in Oxfam, sure - until that day I won't be wearing one, and I'll scoff at those who do just as I do at the gucci crew.

I acturally own a Che t-shirt and bracelet I got from Ecurador. A lot of kids in Toronto wear his t-shirt since Jay-z started wearing it and I also have a friend on Msn who love Che because he spanish but doesn't know anying about his politics.

I have a Che shirt. But I haven't worn it in a long time.

The one time I got the guts to ask someone who was wearing such a shirt who the guy was, guess what they said?

i don´t like any fashion. that destroys the own charakter of someone. if evryone would wear exactly the things he´d like best, without knowing anything about fashion, you would know much more of his charakter. since che t-shirts are fashion, i don´t wear mine very often anymore - i don´t like beeing a part of the fashion and i don´t like people thinking i don´t know che (like many others wearing such shirts), so i prefer my bag with the che patch

I must admit, I am in fundamentally the same position. I feel Che is being misrepresented by this fashion, and thus, if I where my Che shirt, I will be seen as this &#39;fashion&#39;.

What you really need is a Che shirt that says more though. The picture alone won&#39;t do. Some fashion shirts have stuff like "Who the hell is this guy?" <_<

I think something like "Revolutrionary" (though I suppose this can be turned into fashion too), or even better, "Hasta la victoria siempre" or ... something revolutionary like. Be creative.

I own a che t-shirt which was foisted upon me in bolivia (I&#39;ve never had fashion sense anyway, so eh&#33;), and another that my aunt gave to me two days ago.
I used to be fairly opposed to the commodification of Che&#39;s image. Now, however, I have a different oultook: if a person is wearing such a shirt, it is the perfect excuse to start talking to the about socialism. And selling shirts with his image is a curious experience- most people who buy the shirt are not entirely up on who Che was, but, once again, the image as icon presents a chance to talk to people.
Che was opposed to being treated as a star, however it has taken place despite him. The only qualification I would add to the wearing or sale of Che *material* is that it ought to be directly connected to a revolutionary organisation or movement. Using it for purely capitalistic purposes is the worst kind of betrayal of the revolutionary process.

I wear my Che shirts all the time, people can do whatever and wear whatever I don&#39;t care.

woah. i was really really very shocked when i saw some addvertisment (don´t know for what - not important) i´ll explain to you what was to see there: a man (he looked nearly exactly like che) sitting on a confortable couch (smoking a cigar of course) reading a newspaper where you could read the headline "evry revolution ends on the couch" (free translated from german) and the topic of the add was: "luxuriance is a human right". che never would have agreed with this add

I&#39;ve also seen places that sell bongs have banners with a drugged out Che saying "Fuck the revolution..."

Man, I love it when people who don&#39;t know Che wear Che shirts around me. It just gives me an excuse to go into a massive rant about their fucking ignorance. And on the rare occasion I meet someone who actually KNOWS who che is, it&#39;s fun.
