Washington, DC | www.adc.org | January 16, 2018 - The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) needs your help to support the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria in a national call to action. On January 17, 2018, join with thousands of members nation-wide as we call our representatives and demand TPS re-designation and extension for Syria.
TPS for Syrian nationals expires March 31, 2018, and is fast approaching. Nearly 6,000 Syrian nationals in the United States are TPS beneficiaries and live in limbo for fear of forced removal. Let the Trump administration know that these gross violations of human rights are not acceptable!

ADC, in a coalition with other organizations urges its members and supporters to call their Representative in Congress and demand extension for Syrian TPS tomorrow in a National Call to Action.
The Trump adminstration has consistently shown its disregard for the plight of TPS recipients across the globe, most recently with its termination of TPS for El Salvadorean immigrants. We cannot allow this impediment of human rights to continue. By calling your Representative in Congress, you are advocating for the lives of millions of people who are simply fleeing war-torn, and dangerous conditions.

The plight of the Syrian people is dear to the Arab American community.
Mona, a TPS recipient in Virginia shares her story with ADC, "I fled Syria because of the war. I cannot go back. My house is destroyed, I will have no shelter. I work and take care of my sister in the United States. This country is my home."
The number of people in need of humanitarian assistance as a result of the armed conflict in Syria is calculated at 13.1 million. As of January 2018, 5.4 million Syrians are registered as refugees, fleeing violence and risking their lives to find safety for themselves and their families.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) designates TPS to foreign countries in which conditions are unsafe for nationals to return or in conditions where a country is unequipped to support the return of its nationals. Conditions such as natural disasters and on-going conflict may warrant DHS to designate a foreign country for TPS.
TPS expiration dates often arrive before a country has stabilized after a natural disaster or before an armed conflict in a country has ceased. Allowing the TPS designation to expire would mean sending TPS beneficiaries back to countries where their lives are in jeopardy.
