3.Everyone lives in poverty.
People in the Soviet Union worked an average of forty hours a week, and received a vacation of from two weeks to a month each year. Both parents in a family usually worked; it was not uncommon for them to take separate vacations. They were given free education, which included everything from nursery school up through university or college. They were also given free health care. Women, through the eyes of the law, were viewed totally equal to men. If the people did their work, they received the money to buy food as well as extra for recreation. The government also provided other services for free (ie. health care, education, military training, etc.) The US and most other Western countries operate under capitalism in which the land, factories, and various means for producing goods are owned and operated by individuals for profit. In the USSR, the government owned all the land, the natural resources, and the means of production. It was against the law to hire workers to labor for another individual's benefit. The Soviet Union was the only country that appeared to be self-sufficient in energy production.

There would be no wages, people would take what they need as long as they contributed a fair amount (not much) of their labor and would recieve their full, fair compensation from the rest of society, in the form of goods of their own labor, i.e. food, healthcare, entertainment, housing.
A system of energy credits would be a reasonable transitional measure.
My opinion is the same as Syd's. With the exception that in the case of severe shortages of personnel/labour hours in vital sectors (e.g fireman, garbage collection, healthcare) the community could choose to offset this with a greater reward for performing these professions (you can also start scaling this back when the shortage disappears, allowing those who joined while the shortage was there to, perhaps, keep their higher reward).
Also in case in a community (a) certain (persons) are seen as being amazing people who do awesome shit (e.g musicians) or just alot (e.g workaholics) next to what is normally expected of people (or do whats normally expected even though someone has a disability), the community can choose to give them more as well.
Simply paying by the hour (that is, one hour of work = one hour of pay [which is the same for every job) would be the basis of this as long as we still havent achieved such abundance we can get rid of money in all areas of the economy. That is, basic goods 'markets' can be rid of money and preceed according to 'gift economy' probably a long time before luxury items such as ferrari's, which i think should still be made after the revolution [if people so choose, which i think they will ;)]. At least when looking at current production, since ferrari's are only made for the rich nowadays :(
