Why don't any of the world's socialist leaders

there are many Socialists in office around the world, as prime ministers, presidents, parlament, etc etc Why don't these people speak out against the US emargo's on Cuba? Is it because they're scared they'll be imposed on thier country next?

Well none of the worlds socialist leaders are any where near as powerful as the U$, however take a glance at DPRKorea, they are doing a fine job with there new nuclear arsenal pissin off the yanks, japanese and pro-bush australians. Economically speaking the DPRK do a fair bit of trading with Cuba i believe.

Canada, although not socialist, also trades with Cuba.

The UN repeatedly votes for the US to drop their sanctions. The only dissident votes are usually by the USA and Israel.

so then why does the UN put up with that? The US and Israel constantly defy the wishes of the world, why does the world put up with it?

Firstly, the US controls the UN.

Secondly, the US is the ally or friend of almost every nation in the world.

Thirdly, 99% of all countries are capitalist, or capitalist appeasers.

Fourthly, the pockets of politicians are benefited from friendly US relations.

Fifthly, corporations control the world, not people.

And millions of other reasons.

lula is from the PT (partida dos trabalhadores) and chavez led the farmers' revolt. it's fairly self-explanatory. but comrade james is very much right. brazil can't do anything in cuba because it's so terribly in debt to the IMF. and i don't know much about venezuela except that 120 people die from violence every day in caracas.

why isn't china trading with Cuba?? I thought the still were a socialist country on the outside... :ph34r:

China does trade with Cuba - they have a pretty big embassy in Beijing and sometimes host joint cultural events - usually based on communism somehow.

My dad was invited to one of those things - it was some sort of play and musical depicting the revolutions in Russia, Cuba and China. It was pretty weird because the play ended in a musical number with Chinese red guard soldiers from the cultural revolution storming the stage and leading some cuban counterrevolutionaries off stage to be shot - and everyone was laughing their asses off - lol

My father later commented that he did not understand the lyrics because he speaks neither Chinese nor Spanish - but everyone else in the room found the act hillarious :)

You'd think that with the fall of the Soviet Union and China collapsing or falling from the track that the remaining Communist or Socialist countries would stick together more. Like back in the days of the Commintern. I guess to a point they are sticking together but there ain't a lot of them around nowadays.

Because they're social democrats. Social democrats have always sided with capitalism against communism. From German social democrats putting down the 1919 revolution to French social democrats supporting the war in Vietnam.

Many social democrats, and even open supporters of capitalism, are critical of the embargo, as others in this thread have mentioned. That's a tactical disagreement about how to destroy the Cuban revolution - their main argument against the embargo is that it hasn't succeeded, so some other method should be used.

Castro's recent comments about the EU are interesting in this respect....some of the countries he was talking about probably have social democrats in office, and most of them are at least somewhat critical of the embargo.
