Recognizing that the ideological function of the liberal position of distancing oneself from political violence is to silence the drums of class war in order to protect the hegemony of bourgeois society, would you say that it is accurate to say that this is not necessarily a concious ideological function in most liberals, but a sub-concious one?

If yes, then how do we, as communists and as materialists, reduce their arguments to ash? If they genuinely believe that their idealistic position, void of any class analysis, is not defending the legitimacy and hegemony of bourgeois society, but rather argue that everyone should be entitled to their opinion, that using violence on people who have different ideas is wrong, and so forth?

I hope you understand what I mean, I had some trouble putting my thoughts in text.

I was hoping I could bother you for a few moments on the topic of political violence. What are your thoughts on it? Specifically in regards to using it versus fascists. Lately, where I am from, there has been a surge in discussion over political violence due to a peaceful anti-racist demonstration being attacked by Nazis and being defended (violently) by a handful of militant anti-fascists that were present. Liberals are, of course, in a state of uproar, because said anti-fascists defended themselves and the locals from the attacking fascists.

There is no-one better to deal with this question, I think. What is the materialist and marxist approach to political violence against the enemies of our class? How would you, armed with the weapon of materialism and marxism, destroy liberal nonsense about free speech and so forth?

Who are your favourite bastions of necessary violence? The likes of Robespierre, Dzerzhinsky, etc?

Fair enough. I have an interest in despotism from a historical (as opposed to ideological) point of view, so I chose him mostly because of that. You're right about Marius - he did transform Rome from a state into an empire though ('third founder of Rome').

His love for violence and dictatorship captures the spirit of the revolution. He was also a brilliant military strategist and tactician.
