I've notice that we're similar in regards to Cuba, too. That says a lot about our validity, especially since we don't know each other at all.

Concerning the lay-offs, I don't know what to think. I'm worried that socialism is fading away there. Major industries are state owned, but the smaller stuff is starting to be privatized. Not too long ago, they closed down the super cheap food places for the poor. However, I don't like to talk bad about Cuba because the administration is much more well informed than I am. Also, I don't know what Cuba's goals are. What I'm thinking for now is that the administration fears that if they do not change things soon, they will lose their sovereignty. The Revolutionary generation is dying off and the newer generation may be more welcoming of US influence...

Yes, I am explicitly non-sectarian. But at the moment I'm not a formal member of any political party. I have contact with the Trotskyist CWI and SWP, and the Maoist MCPC in China. But my political line is essentially too "electic" for me to formally join any of them, so I'm just a supporter.
