From the "what would Trotsky do?" thread it seems that a few things I've assumed about Trotskyist views are wrong.

What was the left opposition proposing to do if not SIOC, exactly?

I think sectarianism is a pretty big problem. Sometimes I think we should try to form a pan-leninist unity around the basis of a programme, but at the same time we can and should criticize others for views which we think are wrong.

The Trotskyists would be a very powerful force if they could only stop forming little sects and start uniting. I don't think differing views on whether the USSR was a degenerated workers state or state capitalist should keep Trotskyists from being divided, since it has very little to do with programme.

Yeah, it goes beyond that sometimes. A lot of "pan-leftist" people just seem to be Stalinist apologists and demagogues.

Nice try going after the KKE, but the Stalin goon squad is always going to pop up to prop them up. They've done a lot of shit to alienate the workers.

Getting tired of dealing with the anti-bolshevisk sentiment some people display, particularly when they just keep repeating the same thing that's been debunked over and over. They weren't perfect in the Civil War, but I don't think they made any huge mistakes. There is Kronstadt, but it seems understandable given the context. It's awfully easy to look at in isolation and make an incorrect conclusion.
