It was more then a mistake, it's a result of an ongoing shift to the right of the LCR. We support and take part in the NPA, but it's also a result of a rightwing shift of the LCR. We support the cuban revolution, however Socialist Actions statement that Cuba is basicaly socialist ( or at least that's the way I intepreted it) is pretty muuch off and seems akin to the mistake SWP made. I don't think socialist alternative gives any blankett support to the green party, or nader. If you're worried about dilluting the left I am not sure 4th international would be the place to be for you either.
So what made you leave socialist alternative in the first place?
Saying they have no opinions is the nicest thing I could say, as I could bring up some opinions forwarded both "officially" and by their members. In the UK the FI group even officially declares itself to "Members of Socialist Resistance disagree on all sorts of things but there are some basic ideas that we share." And with all this said I find it very unlikely that any change will come from within the international on this.
In brazil it took the FI years to remove teh democracia socialista group, which held ministers in Lulas government and supported attacks on the poor, from being the official FI group, and the current FI group is pretty clos to the rightwing of PSOL, mroe often then not they will ally with them and overall the group seems very loose. This is also my experience with teh swedish FI section which basically claims to have no opinions on anything. Sure they have some good memebers, we've worked with them, but as a party they are practically on their way to dissolve themselfes.
Well, yeah it's a discussion club for one, but many local sections seem to suffer from this very much as well, consider the official FI section in the US the Fourth Internatoional Caucus in Solidarity. In Portugal the Bloco de Esquerda, of which the portugese FI section holds the leadership, seemingly without internal opposition voted for the EU-IMF austerity measures for greece. The portugese Fi site have yet to even comment on that, nevermind the fact that they sit in the leadership, in fact the chairman of BE is in teh FI. In France th FI section dissolved itself (and a chunk split to the right to join the Front De Gauche which, it seems is content with working with the socialdemocrats).
Dude you switched organization again? Now Socialist Action seem alright as far as the USFI goes, but I could give you quite a few reasons why you would not want to be in the USFI.
Certe.
Just came back from my long weekend. Miles is still around if you wish to contact him directly.
So, how are things?
hey I'm back. I think I'm going to stay on here after all. Socialist Action is going great. I'm going to be writing for the paper regularly now.
