But why are they? Once one understands the Marxist conception of the State, then it ceases to be any different from how Anarchists envision the organization of the revolution/post-revolution. And so ceases to exist the biggest difference between these two movements.

Take Paris Commune for example. Both Bakunin and Marx help it in high regard and yet they still fought over the State question. And it seems that they did so, because Bakunin just didn't know what he was talking about all along when he critique Marxist notion of the State.

Well, as far as isms are concerned, I prefer to call myself a Marxist, but that's more because I don't really see the difference between Marxism and Anarchism. Discussion about the State and the DoPT just drive me crazy, because it seems to me that people just keep talking past each other over and over again.

If you can get hold of Stephen Coleman's biography of De Leon you might like it. I'd share my copy but I lent it out and haven't got it back.

Someone owned a pet monkey. It was dressed in a fancy jacket. Escaped its car, and ran through a mall.

All socialists advocate a "democratically planned economy." The Grantite tradition, from which the CWI and IMT have emerged, doesn't just call the Soviet Union a degenerated workers' state until 1991 (which is the so-called "orthodox" position). It also dubs all sorts of states "deformed workers' states," including Ethiopia circa 1970s, Syria circa 1970s and 1980s, and others. They are certainly the most visible group, but that visibility is bought at the cost of (from what I have heard) extreme bureaucratization within the group. Q, one of three forum admins/mods who have left the CWI in the past several months, can tell more about this. As for "Orthodox Marxism," I am not sure what you're talking about, but I hope it's not the thinly veiled Kautskyism that passes for "Orthodox" on the forum

In your opinion, what about their views distinguishes them positively from other Trot groups?

    Why the CWI?

Never read Revolutionary Socialism in U. S. Congress: Parliamentary Idiocy Vs. Marxian Socialism but would like to.
Best I could find apart from the Amazon reprint was the following link

"Whatever you do, never lose your fondness of walking. I walk myself into my daily well-being, and I walk out of all illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so heavy that one cannot outwalk it." -Soren Kierkegaard.

"Beloved imagination, what I most like in you is your unsparing quality. There remains madness, 'the madness that one locks up', as it has aptly been described. That madness or another..." -Andre Breton.
