I guess it's because I am Latino and Latinos are big on Republics. I am also a huge fan of the Second Spanish Republic. I just never studied Maoism or ever heard anything about it except negative stuff; that's it's terrorism, etc. And this was from other leftists! I am sure it's not all that and it has much more to offer. But what about it appeals to you?

Well thats good to hear. Yeah, in the Third World, it is based on Guerilla war as it seems to be the easiest way for power to be seized.
I dont know anything about the Tupac Amaru group, but all ideologies can have their crazy strands. Look at the Posada for example.
Maoism can be quite liberatarian when it is possible too.

You should read Lee Feigon - Mao: A reinterpretation. It gives a good overview of the Mao years, saying both the good and bad that he did.

Just having a little trouble here at the moment. Apparently the communists voted 'almost uniformly' for Hitler in the Reichstag, but I'm pretty sure the KPD couldn't just vote for Hitler, and I am seeing no evidence that they actually did. What the fuck is this Jonah Goldberg idiot talking about?

Yep. that guy (i cannot remember his name) was a clever idea by spike. It starts of as a guy who keeps himself to himself (yet everyone respects him as he comes across as tough), then he does that rhyme and he becomes very very interesting. Almost like a symbol of the tension that must have been felt as a result of people simply blaming everyone else instead of seeing the problem for what it is. The way he embodies rage and tension is one to be remembered also.
