Prachanda Path was always about the fusion of protracted people's war and urban insurrection - the fusion of 1949 and 1917. What we're seeing now is the Maoist end game. They've been preparing a mass base amongst students and workers in the cities for thje past few years, and now they're mobilising this support base into a series of confrontations with the state. The beginning of the process of the urban insurrection.

I totally agree re the significance, and I'd be very interested to hear what you think te 'political implications' the Maoists should grasp are :-) If the Maoists do lead an insurrection in Nepal, seize state power and radically transform Nepali society, it'll create an echo heard across the world. It could lead to serious regroupments in the international communist movement, and would at the very least spur a lot of discussion.

In a few days, the Maoists will launch a series of strikes and demonstrations by their teachers, womens, student and labour wings, plus more besides. They have stated that after the month of protests has ended, if the government has still not accepted their demands they will launch an indefinite general political strike - shutting the country down. This looks like it's going to be big.

It depends. If it gets to the point where theres a full blown confronation between the Maoists and the reactionaries, I think it would be warranted. At this stage I'm still not sure, there'd need to be more people regularly posting and discussing the struggle over there. As things stand it's still pretty much me and a handful of Maoists and MLs.
