Well he's published by Oxford so he's gotta be good for something. He's a good social historian.
American Revolution Page Smith- A New Age Begins: A People's History of the American Revolution Gordon S. Wood- Radicalism of the American Revolution Herbert Aptheker- The American Revolution 1763-1783, A History of the American People (Marxist) R.R. Palmer- The Democratic Revolution (Marxist, though expensive, but my favorite) Those are good. Also check out some more of Gordon Wood because he wrote a lot of good stuff on the subject and is one of the foremost historians on the subjects. For the French Revolution check out William Doyle's work if you haven't, I just finished it.
Haha, I love history, it's my main interest although I have an interest in all social sciences. I just really have a passion for the study of history. Sociology and political science are probably my second favorite fields, both of which probably more useful for a leftist than history. You might consider them if you are in school/planning on going back. As far as book recommendations go. Are you asking for recommendations for books about the study of history, or books on specific subjects?

Ah, sorry. Must have seen you say something about working in a warehouse in a thread and concluded Amazon. Thanks for the tips anyway.
Considering applying at Amazon. You used to be employed there, right? Any advice against it?
I'm glad that revleft can solve pressing theoretical matters, like what we'll do with radioisotopic thermoelectric generators malfunctioning near primitive tribes!
That was the second song by them I ever listened to (dramamine) ... first was trailer trash. I was around 13 years old. Weird time in my life, I'd just entered my 12th school since kindergarten. Brings back melancholic memories every time I hear it. It's hypnotic ... haunting, even.
