I am not sure. Probably a borderline between annoying wankers and bigots. It depends, though, were they friends? If so, neither I guess. I mean, I sometimes joke about myself and the stereotypical Gaelic (specifically Irish) penchant for alcohol; in truth I am not a big alcoholic. I totally agree with your other point and I find it a little sad that people conflate England and ''Britain'' (which is more abstract and mostly a government thing).
