In what way did the revolution "degenerate" in the 1920s as you claim then?

Message was too long, but I had one more sentence to add. My inspiration for this view is George Lukács, who considered himself an "orthodox Marxist"(though perhaps not in the same way we would think of it). He ended up supporting the NEP, and later became a fierce critic of Stalinism.

I would have to agree with Goti here, to some degree, saying that that the beginning of the counter-revolution was the very moment the revolution itself began in 1917. If you are into dialectics, it is helpful to see it from a dialectical perspective. There are counter-revolutionary elements in just about every organization, and there certainly were such elements in the Bolshevik party from the beginning to a small degree; but over the course of the revolution and its subsequent isolation, the negation to the revolutionary fractions of the party, the counter-revolutionary fractions, grew in power and eventually eclipsed the revolutionary fraction in power all together. It's the moment when the counter-revolution negated the revolution that is the question, and as you know there are many interpretations. This, of course, does not diminish the significance of the October Revolution as a fundamentally proletarian revolution worthy of the support of all Communists.

The "degeneration" of the Russian revolution started in 1918 with the introduction of War Communism. This is prior to its isolation.
