The way I understand it at the moment, permanent revolution meant that the bourgeoisie were no longer capable of leading a revolution against the remaining feudal elements and that instead a socialist country could develop from feudalism. I'm not sure if he wanted a capitalist stage to be led by social-democratic i.e capitalist regimes or if he wanted these societies to become socialist straight away. I've gotta do some more reading on this.

The stage before socialism mentioned by Marx was not 'state' capitalism. It was ordinary free market private enterprise capitalism. State capitalism is where a bourgeois state competes on the world market and controls the means of production, as well as the country's wealth.

As for the USSR there were many other factors. Sounds like a cop-out to blame it only on revisionism for me, not that revisionism made anything better. Look at how fucked Russia is right now.
