Changes to existence creates changes to their consciousness, in that social psychology/sociological sense. A position of power (power in the foucault sense) apart of the proletariat creates material/social conditions apart of the proletariat, and will bring change of conscious (which leads to material interests apart of the proletariat) to leaders (bureaucrats, et.al) , especially the "new generation" which didn't participate in the revolution.

There are probably some methods for Leninism to avoid or go around this problem, but I can't fit in any suggestions in this box ATM.

Well I can understand wholly why the debate is relevant. But I just think there's more things that the Trotskyist movement can concern itself with, especially after all the splits and arguments in the 70s and 80s. We're not the People's Front of Judea.
