Well I think a trendy as a definition is alot more subjective.
I was just using that in referance to Maykovsky as his politics are classic Gas and Water socialism which totally neglects the material context of Ireland.
TBH I dont think Connolly ever used Trendy Left, I think its a newer occurance.

When Connolly was oraganising the Unions in Belfast he encountered socialists who refused to engage the Protestant working class fully in their politics.
They would reform their persepctive on National Liberation to accomadte reactionary ideals and hope to win the Protestant working class over by purely economics.
This he encountered when the Gas and Water protests were under way in belfast when socialists would accomodate Loyalism in an attempt to under handidly make them all of a sudden socialist.
Hence why Connolly refered to them as Gas and Water socialists, or Costello refered to them as ring road socialists from his time.

Apparently the Maoist are (maybe) prepared to help with the flight costs, they're hosting an international anti-imperialist youth conference end of next year which I'm aiming to go to. Still, the Zaps would be pretty sweet as well.

If yu've got that attitude to uni I'd really sugest not going ae. I went with an attitude of indifference and antipathy to the whole bloody process, and as a result this year has been an academic disaster for me. I don't know how it wrks in the UK but if you can wait a few years and get a student allowance as opposed to a loan I'd say that's definitely worthwhile.

Ha I've got a lot of ideas, dunno about solid plans. This year has been a disaster academically and I've racked up abut 10,000 dollars in student debt for essentially nothing. I need to get out while I still can!

The main thing with uni is that you shouldn't go there with any illusions about doing it to learn. You're spending a few years on an educational conveyer belt in order to get a degree that will hopefully lead to a nice job. You don't learn fuck all, and it's a frustrating and unfulfilling experience. Plus you're surrounded by middle class wankers...

Oh and fuck Mexico man, you should come to Nepal and see a real revolutionary movement. It'll open your eyes, this whole anarchism thing's just a passing phase :-)

Haha I don't want to go back to uni because basically I've hated it. It just strikes me that studying history and politics at uni gets in the way of me studying history and politics as I normally would, and it all just seems really artificial and pointless.

Plus, I'm only just approaching 18 and I don't think I have the self-discipline to get through uni. I tend to start my essays a few days after they're due in... I'm too much of a carefree stoner to get through uni at this point.

Also, I'd really like to have money. I've got a flat sorted out next year which (power and internet included!) comes to $100 a weel, so if I get a full time job even on the minimum wage I'd have arund $300 a week after covering rent. Take food and whatnot out of that and I can still live pretty well. Plus, I'm keen as to save up next year and at the end of it fly over to Nepal :-)
