I've been wanting to see that for a while now - it's a hard sell because my partner can't stand cop and robber shows (understandable considering what most of them are like).

I hear that the Wire is really good but I think I'll have to wait until Lost is over because I can't handle more than one serial show at a time - if I was hooked on two shows I would probably just waste away.

I think a more realistic (dialectical) take on story development is probably some of the appeal of these new serial dramas as opposed to traditional TV where charters and situations are unchanging and novels and film with a 3 act structure.

Thanks for the tip comrade - I'll have to message you sometime in a few months once I get a chance to start renting the 1st season.

Well, you caught me, I was being hyperbolic because of my fixation on that show! I didn't learn dialectics from "Lost" but I do think the show is very dialectical in its approach to character arcs and storytelling. People change on the show, but then they take a step back and move forward until eventually they reach a point where the quantitative change has become a qualitative change. The con-man Sawyer doesn't suddenly become a virtuous person, he moves forward, then hits a bump and reverts to his old ways.

I think the writers are conscious of this dialectical process because it can be seen in many of the conflicts (internal and external) but I think they are coming at it from a Buddhist spiritual dialectic.

Anyway, thanks for indulging me in my nerdy little obsessions comrade

Thanks RP, although the anarchists on the board (and even left communists now) would disagree because of some of the topics that have come up lately in which I don't have the typical line. lol.
  8. Excellent, thanks again!
