i read your post in the belgrade thread, but your position is still disgusting. i don't think pro-revolutionaries should be assuming the guilt of comrades based on evidence provided by the state, speculating on organizations that may or may not be involved, or suggesting that some charges by the state against comrades are acceptable.

Quite. For a CS london meeting recently, we read a polemic by Kautsky against Radek on the affiliation of Labour to the Second International - was illuminating in terms of how little 'trouble' Kautsky sees coming from that direction. Almost exactly a century of hindsight later, the naivety is touching.

It's nothing. It's just an analogy between plague doctors and modern day Marxism. The 'bird' is a bird mask. I thought such plague doctors are interesting figures. They wore them to counter the plague. They also gave victims medical treatment.

Yet all of it was based on false logic or errors of logic (hence the user title). Dying people had to lay down incircled by torches to warm up. It was believed that warmth would bring life back (a logic derived from the sight of cold dead corpses). The herbs in the mask were to remove the stench of the plague becaus it was assumed that diseases spread through stench. There's some truth, but the logical conclusions are again totally wrong and disastrous. It's not difficult to think that some on the left are simply behaving like modern plague doctors .

hey, I figured you might be interested in this if you didn't know

My org publishes the Platypus Review, which was loosely modeled after Die Neue Zeit, because we felt the left needed a forum open to submissions from across the radical left, and which would hopefully stimulate debate and argument, in the hopes that this would lead to theoretical clarification and the reconstitution of a marxian left. anyways, check it out if you want

I'd be James Turley - and the odd sneaky nom de guerre, like the rest of us.

Hello Jacob, do you know much about the history of Germany (it seems like you do from some of your posts) between 1890-1991 and the historiography surrounding it (sunderweg etc)?
I have to do an essay on it for school to answer the question "Considering the process of change in Germany democracy between 1890-1991, to what extent was the Treaty of Versailles a key turning point?"

Was wondering if you could point me in the direction of any resouces i should look at (books, articles etc)?

Also no translation yet, it's basically about SPD-chief Sigmar Gabriel being "the true heir" of Lafontaine and that SPD and Die Linke could even have a fusion in nearer future because Die Linke is almost dead in the west without Lafontaine and Gabriel is the only "left-wing populist" who could replace the gap Lafontaine's retirement left and therefore destroy the role which Die Linke played untill now.

Yeah, I'll take a copy of it but I really don't have the time to participate in a reading group about it, as I'm already really busy with other readings.

"A new centrist project does not have to repeat these mistakes. Nobody in this topic is advocating a carbon copy of the Second International (which again was only partly centrist)." (Tjis, class-struggle anarchist)

"A centrist strategy is based on patience, and building a movement or party or party-movement through deploying various instruments, which I think should include: workplace organising, housing struggles [...] and social services [...] and a range of other activities such as sports and culture. These are recruitment and retention tools that allow for a platform for political education." (Tim Cornelis, left-communist)
