As an adjunt to a party, I don't see how they could hurt. As a replacement for a party, I think it would be ridiculous. Plus, they would be just as difficult to organize as unions or parties and would take just as much, if not more resources, time and manpower.

Have you seen the GTWA's Solidarity Platform? http://www.workersassembly.ca/docs/S...tyPlatform.pdf There's been some useful debate on it. I wasn't sure how internal the documents are but they seem to be all open access on the site, so you might want to look the discussion bulletins.

Ah, I never said I fully agreed with you (though I think Napoleon was a mix of positive and negative), I just thought you put your point across well. And if you recall, I argued that you were a socialist and should not be banned, whilst thinking your views were ''idiosyncratic'' rather than reactionary. I have no problem at all with you holding your views, and I do think that Caesar was at least better for the poor than many of his republican enemies.

If you're going to stretch my words on strategy, at least reference the right person. Bukharin is so off the mark.

I completely agree that modern consumerism is the new opiate of the people. When Marx used that expression to refer to religion he was speaking as a man of his day, someone in the Victorian era, wherein the Church still had an iron grip on society in spite of post-Enlightenment reforms, and the general public often took the Church's teaching and rules as infallible tenets to live by, and Christian "morality" as the highest ideal, putting aside common sense and humanism to conform to Christian virtue. This was an obstacle to human progress, and today we see another in material indulgence, where people don't care about making the world a better place, or starting a revolution, because they're too busy watching tv and reading celebrity gossip magazines. If Marx were alive today, I'm sure that this is what he'd condemn.

"A new centrist project does not have to repeat these mistakes. Nobody in this topic is advocating a carbon copy of the Second International (which again was only partly centrist)." (Tjis, class-struggle anarchist)

"A centrist strategy is based on patience, and building a movement or party or party-movement through deploying various instruments, which I think should include: workplace organising, housing struggles [...] and social services [...] and a range of other activities such as sports and culture. These are recruitment and retention tools that allow for a platform for political education." (Tim Cornelis, left-communist)
