Mostly, though, I would recommend against trying to wade your way through some thick economics textbook, whether it is Marxist or not. I mean, for reference, the best book out there is probably Wolff & Resnick's Contending Economic Theories, but I would use it as reference only, not as gospel.

The best thing you can do to understand economics is to think about it yourself & discuss with others.

I mean, just to start you off - why do we need to produce things? Who should produce things? What are the various stages of the production process? What are the difficulties of the production process? What are the options for distributing goods and services? Are consumers the same as workers?

I cry at various points throughout...more at the original show than the movie but both endings are very hankies-at-the-ready
