Anyways, you said, the majority of the proletariat does not posses revolutionary class consciousness(which is attained only through open class struggle, i.e mass political action, not petty labour-disputes or other economic struggles). So instead of concluding that communists should try to instill revolutionary class consciousness in as many proletarians as possible and enlarge the party-movement as much as possible, you conclude that the vanguard of the proletariat should just sit on it's ass and do nothing. I don't understand your logic comrade.

Apologies for the late reply, but recently I've been spending most of my spare time re-reading volume 1 of Das Kapital so I've been rather absent on RevLeft.

That sort of thinking leads right into Stalinist "vanguardism" and the formation of bureacratic sects which try to keep "the party" "pure". This will not do, comrade. You said, the proletariat is not always class-conscious. This is true. Marx, though, never used the term I think. For him, the proletariat existed as class in itself, as a class as such. The whole point was the "formation of the proletariat into" a class for itself, a class in the true sociological sense, which the proletariat is only when it attains revolutionary class consciousness.
