Its an famous print from 1924 for the pacifist "antikriegsdage" (now a day stolen by the strasserist neo-nazi movement) by the communist artist kathe kollwitz; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%A4the_Kollwitz
The fact that it predates WWII by only a decade or so makes it both even more relevant and pretty sad...

Over a year ago, I consider myself a Social Democrat. Now I changed my views after a very long absence of Revleft. Now I consider myself as an Socialist, but the admins have yet to un-restrict me. I don't know their reasons.

"He wrote some stuff about how workers are too stupid to achieve socialist consciousness and need the bourgeois academics to teach them about it."

Actually, when he said that, he was speaking of the past. In other words, he was saying that the intelligentsia (Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Engels, etc.) introduced science to the working class; scientific socialism didn't just spring up randomly within the proletariat. Kautsky was actually quite opposed to intellectual involvement in the "present" worker movement: http://marxists.org/archive/kautsky/...x/int-work.htm

Welcome to the Lenin Rediscovered group.

Well, I think that this is a little off-key. He certainly appraised people more knowledgable about socialism helping educate fellow workers, but I've never seen him spout any crap about all that professional revolutionary nonsense. Then again, I've only read his Erfurt Programme so I might be a little ignorant here.

Pah! Bordiga's bold! karl's halo of hair is superior!

I agree though; kautsky's shift into rightist politics post-1912(?) was mirrored by a lot of like-minded contemporaries. Not Lenin, but folks like Plekhanov, etc.

I'd really like to know what exactly made them shift so viciously away from revolutionary politics. I don't think it has anything to do with what they'd supported as their writings on organisation and 'keeping momentum' don't look reactionary in the least.
