I would say Venezuela's living conditions are improving for the majority of people. There are pictures of me with my baby sitter along side this main road in a town that were there before Chavez took power, then when I went back the road was improved itself, there was a water tower that provides clean water and the town now has a clinic (Used to have two but Chavez spent way too much on rural clinics, so it had to be closed down.) I'm not a ML-ist like you, so I take issue with Chavez centralizing the power and censoring opponents (Bourgeois or otherwise). The country ocasionally runs across economic problems like rising food prices and inflation and such, but the government is pretty quick to respond. He is subverting libertarian and true socialism and increases his own power. Sometimes the patriotic Jingo becomes too much, for example, he accused anyone who runs against him of being "unpatriotic." Defintly better than his predecessors though.

I was born on the day of Xochitl. I felt that flowers which to me symbolize beauty, represent who I am. I worship Xochiquetzal, even though that is something private that I won't go into detail on. Also, my uncle in DF referred to me as Xochitl.

Esperanza is, Xochitl is not. Xochitl is my spiritual name.

Keep up the good work in the Paedo thread. Funny how we (me, you, Rafiq, Brospierre, Esperanza et al) are reactionaries for not supporting "Paedo Rights" as an important part of Leftist policy (event though most of the rest of the global Proletariat would probably agree with us). Sometimes it is like the world has gone mad... then I remember this is just RevLeft!!

Chuncho. You must have some knowledge of spaghetti westerns in general. I just heard about this French Eurowestern from around 1970 called 'Vent d'est'. Volante stars and the directorial collective included Godard. It's supposed to be fully communist. Naturally, given how much I want to see it, copies are not forthcoming. Have you heard of it? Have you seen it? Do you know of any amazingly well informed cinephiles who might have some leads on it? Be well. Just watched Solima's Face to Face with Volante and Tomas Milian. It's a parable for the rise of fascism and highly entertaining to boot.

About El Chuncho

Basic Information

Biography
Marxist-Leninist, though not a hardcore sectarian, grow up as a peasant, not a worker.
Location
England
Interests
History and science, Leftism and reading.
Political Statement
I am a Marxist-Leninist. I believe that whilst comrade Stalin had his faults, he acted for the good of the people and his faults are over-exaggerated by some of the left. I disagree with Trotsky, and find him naive on issues, but I do not especially hate him or Trotskyists. At the end of the day I would side with any leftist against a rightist. I am not a great sectarian thinking that Pan-Leftism is more helpful than bickering, and I am inspired by the non-Marxist pre-Marx and Mark-contemporaries such as William Morris, Winstanley and Bertrand Russell (despite his naiveties regarding Marxism-Leninism).

I also believe in 'Socialism in One Country', thinking that before you can liberate the world, you have to start in your home. I agree with the wars of national liberation throughout the world, including in Ireland (though the IRA seem somewhat dubious at the moment) and the Middle-Eastern countries, and then built your country up.

I believe that cultures are, in Stalin's words, "neither racial nor tribal, but a historically formed community of people". I think monocultural internationalism is impossible and unrealistic, preferring multicultural internationalism.

Though Marxist-Leninists are portrayed as humourless, I am not even above seeing humour in my own ideology.
