Why did you set The Boss' sectarian "Marxists" user group as your main tendency? That imbecile should be avoided at all cost. The Boss created it in August because he was upset that DNZ, and not an anti-partyist like himself, was the group moderator for Revolutionary Marxists, the oldest "multi-tendency" group for Marxists. He actually campaigned for the BA to change the name of our Revolutionary Marxists group to "Kautskyists" or something other petty shit like that if I remember correctly, even though like a handful of the group's members are pro-pre-renegade-Kautsky.

Yeah, the CWI, in my experience, has been relatively far more tolerant. Of course there are limits, often more in a practical sense as there is little room for longrunning debate. Papers are written with a 'broad mass' in mind that should be convinced of joining the CWI and strike. 'Discussions' have more the character of rallies and dissenting views are tolerated, but not encouraged in any way.

That is better than most other organisations I guess. But if you're going to start from scratch on a local level anyway, there is little point in joining I think.

Ha, well there are things going on here politically and a growing youthful population (mostly as younger people are unable to afford San Francisco), but you might be disappointed if you move here just for the political atmosphere

I think pretty much anywhere in California - especially in urban areas - is going to be pretty expensive. Rent is controlled but also hasn't gone down from the bubble-era of home prices so a decent 1 bedroom in Oakland will probably run $700-1100 and higher if it's fancy-pants or in a "hip" part of town. You can find rooms with people for less than $700, but even then it will probably be in the $500 range.

Home prices have fallen, and there were tons of forclosures, but also property gets picked up pretty quickly outside of the most depressed areas where homes are probably not worth it for people to buy for use or rental - developers buy up big decying parts of West Oakland and put these coloful boxy condoes that look all modern and yuppie behind 10 foot fences right next to liquor stores and falling apart houses. >

So for the Bay Area, it's definately cheaper than S.F. and has more services and things to do and public transit than some of the further out towns.
