I'm interested in why you are considering the ISO. I haven't heard to many good things about them, but you and me are pretty close politically so I was wondering why you found them favorable.

I don't know if you've ever heard of it or not, but there's a pretty good movie about Rosa Luxemburg from Germany, called "Rosa Luxemburg". Just mention it because you asked for a biography of Luxemburg. And reading is for nerds, so you might as well watch the film!

If it's the same guy that I know through Facebook, he's now in Socialist Organizer rather than Socialist Action, so it makes sense the group never got off the ground.

RU's kind of in a funny place, because we don't really have local groups yet (though maybe one in Wisconsin soon.) We were formed as a soft-split from the SP-USA, and while we have a lot of good people, we're kind of spread out across the country and don't really have a concentration in any one place. So, again, if you're looking for something with a local presence, RU isn't it (at least for the moment.)

A combination of personal connections through Facebook (like I think I know the person who was organising the Socialist Action branch in KY) and trawling the websites of the various socialist groups to see where they have listed branched. Ideally it's to help foster cooperation and coordinated activity in areas where different groups have a mutual presence. Also I'm a nerd and like completeness.

No, I'm from NJ. I just like to gather info on what leftist groups have a presence where, because it's something that comes up a lot on RevLeft and the information isn't really all in one place. I think it's important for folks to get connected with a group locally, even if it ultimately doesn't match their politics, to at least have the experience of being inside a group, however problematic its politics or internal culture might be.

Ah, oh well. The only other groups I've found info for in KY is CCDS (euro-communist split from the CPUSA before it went fully euro-communist anyway), and the Young Communist League. So slim pickings.

The ISO might be your best bet in terms of local groups. You might find Revolutionary Unity interesting as well (http://www.revunity.org/?page_id=6) [/shamelessplug], but you could do a lot worse than the ISO, in my view.

I'm in the SP (though have been somewhat loathe to admit over the past several months), and I can't say I've heard much from the Kentucky folks recently. It's possible they've stopped meeting as SP, though there's a student group in Lexington that might be active: http://socialiststudentunion.blogspot.com/

I hear you. Being a Marxist-Leninist I'm obviously going to have some disagreements with these groups, but I'm at the point where I'd be willing to call myself a Pol-Potist if it meant getting out there and actually doing something.

So are they still active? I noticed their calendar is completely blank, and their Facebook page is private so I can't really tell what's going on there.
