Though I have mostly heard about it straight from the horses mouth so to speak. I have done a search into Stem Cell Research (in this case taking an Adult Human Cell for use in experimentation) just quickly though:

The main problem would be that it can (at the moment) only show the effects on one organ (unless you have a lot of cells from different parts of the Human body) however at least they are Human cells and thus show the effects on Humans as opposed to closely related but distinct animals. I'll try to find some scientific papers and ask around.

You are right about animal testing, it is only used for its inexpensive nature. They can actually test products on human cells these days anyway which gives more accurate results and isn't cruel. Animal testing is just a cheap nasty way of doing things and because all animals differ somewhat from humans even rodents and apes which are very related have a small difference which can effect how a chemical reacts to their biology. Actually at least ones a product was tested on rats, passed the test and then was given to the human population and was found to be unsafe. And those reasons are why I am 100% against animal testing; its cruel, it isn't safe for people and other methods could be used.

I think it is a bit sad that most leftists have very little regard for the rights of other sentient beings.
