No problem, I hope everything works out well for you.
yeah, I told them that I dunno, I thought Leeds was an OK place. Better than some places in Europe I've been. I'm back in London now, but I'm leaving on a flight tomorrow to go back to 'murika.
also, forgot to tell you, but so far I've come across a couple people from the UK, and both of them seemed to view Leeds in a very negative light, lol. one guy from Wales characterized it as the spawning ground of the BNP or something?
added to bookmarks is there a way to d/l shti on the site? im drunk and couldnt figure it out eight now
There wasn't ANYTHING vocalized in her campaign about social issues, although I remember reading in her list of positions stuff about keeping marijuana decriminalized and opposition to gun control. She was elected to clean house in Alaska's state government, and she was perceived as being successful in that goal, so she had a really high approval rate for a while, the highest in the country I think. But then, well, we all know what happened, and now most people in Alaska hate her. Trying to tie Palin into some kind of religious zealot current (which is how I perceived the documentary) is misguided, though, I think the phenomenon of Palin and why she's tapped into something is more complex than that, much more complex. All that stuff could be mentioned in the docu, though, like I said I haven't seen it. It's disappointing that people even know who she is in Europe, though. A few people have asked me what it was like to be under her "regime", lol
i can't watch it where I am, but I saw an interview with that guy on CNN. He seems to portray Palin as some kind of really far-right social conservative who came out of a political scene with a unique evangelical flavor, an assessment I don't agree with. She may have become kind of a far-right "social values" conservative or something, but her rise to power wasn't characterized by that at all. She promised two things essentially during her first election bid: to purge Alaska's government of corrupt officials (in case you didn't know, Alaska is an extremely corrupt state...our senator, Ted Stevens, who was an extremely powerful figure in the US senate when he was alive, was raided by the FBI for corruption while he AND his son were under investigation by the government). And, of course, she promised to keep up the permanent fund dividend, aka the money Alaska extorts from oil companies, because "those resources belong to Alaskans" (what a socialist)
Well that sounds weird, and pretty relevant to my interests, thanks.
What do you reckon about this Blue labour stuff...do you reckon it will become more influential in the labour party or not?.BTW thanks for the interesting post.
