You have to be much more specific on criticisms about a vanguard rather than a one-liner. You seem confused that the 'party' (of course a vanguard does not necessarily equate a party structure) is somehow alien to the class where in fact it necessitates the class itself - experienced proletarians guiding the direction of a revolutionary movement in time of struggle with of course input from the mass itself.

Have you read any in-depth analyses of the vanguard before coming to this one-line opinion, eg James P Cannon?

If its very complicated to describe (and tbh, I think its because you're still confused slightly about what to believe) then why not explain it here? After all, ou goal is to win over the mass of the working class, and by saying 'its complicated' we don't do anything to change that. Who knows, at some period in the future it may be yourself having to win people like me over to your position.

Why not start with your criticisms of the concept of vanguardism?

I was just browsing and picked up on this, its pretty interesting. Surely a lot of the strategic and tactical analysis of both the Trotskyist, Platformist and Left Communist Tendencies are completely opposed - seeing as that is the basis of a tendency after all, as a strategic coordination of methods of the class.

Take trade unionism, for instance: one of the the key areas which requires class activity. Left Communists are opposed to working within a trade union structure, you could argue this is the opposite of Lenin's writing in On Trade Unions as well as Trotskyist and indeed contemporar Trotskyist analysis of industral organisation. How can you corrolate all three facets of tendencies which differ dramatically in praxis?

So, do you believe in a vanguard? Some might argue that the vanguard is inherently authoritarian, this obviously being the opposite of "libertarian". Of course, some might say there's the elitist, "from-above" vanguard, and some might argue for the "from-below" vanguard.

I just think it's interesting that left-coms and council communists are generally very hostile towards Leninism; apparently it's authoritarian. Trotskyism's original name was Bolshevisk-Leninism, i.e. Trotskyists are Leninists, for the most part. How have you managed to reconcile these two opposing ideologies?
