yes, i admire Liebknecht because he turned the SPD from a sect to a mass party. That quote can be applied to the Soviet Union and the other 'socialist' countries.
I see you, like me, still see socialism and communism as synonyms, opposed to the stalinists

Well I don't think so either, but I still find the betrayal of almost the entire 2nd international to be troubling and something worth analysing. Previously I might have thought that it was the concept of the mass party which lead to degeneration, as opposed to Lenin's conception of the party, however it seems that the Bolsheviks themselves had their fair share of compromisers.

I'm guessing that as a Left Communist your theory would be that Parliamentarian-ism played a large part in the degeneration.
