Hello there. I am interested in Buddhism but admit that my knowledge is probably more down to the "Hippy" Buddhism of the 1960's and New Agers than authentic buddhism in situ. Another user also rebuked me by saying that Tibet was an authoritarian state under the Dalai Lama with human rights abuses! This came as a culture-shock to me because I freely admit it is not what I would have expected in a Buddhist state. Do you have any information on this? Do you have an sources which offer a leftwing critique of Buddhism?

I havn't "tried" quakerism, no. but I do see it's parallels to the left. I don't "try" beliefs. I just have a set of them and if you can convince me to change one, then good job because people rarely do.

I'm interested in buddism, in particular zen version, but I recognize another filisofical influences as Tao, Hinduism, Joga, dialectics and transpersonal psicology. And I recognize than even official religion has often supported power and alienation or superstition. But nevertheless, THERE'S A GOLDEN THREAD of search of "spirituality" and superation of "self ego", that connects it even with modern psicoanalisis.
What I would propof it's a broader group that doesn't defined itself exclusively as buddhist.

For example budism, tao, joga and traspersonal psicology.

hey there, the group I moderate,"Christian Leftists", just had a discussion on wether you could be a buddhist and a christian and I don't think some of them quite know what buddhism is. would you mind posting in that thread in our group to explain a little bit about what most buddhists believe?
