I certainly agree with that. How big is the Socialist republican movement in Ireland (and by that i mean north and south) currently? I know a few people from various places around Ireland and i have a really good friend from Galway but they really aren't connected with any political groups and are on the whole pretty disenfranchised with this so called peace process while certainly wanting nothing at all to do with whatever the new thugs calling themselves the IRA are. I certainly find myself agreeing far more with republican Socialists then many other Socialists but maybe that's just because i grew up when the war in the north was constantly on the news and the sectarian divide was almost as bad in my part of Canada as in Ireland.

I read Fanon before i read Connolly but i think Fanon's view of what happened in post colonialist African countries hold true for what happened in the Irish free state as well. The so called new bourgeois moved in and where just as if not even more inept then the ruling colonialists. Granted Connolly himself warned that the Irish working class would most likely have to fight the middle class volunteers once Ireland was liberated from the empire.

A fellow fan of Connolly's work i see . Besides Marx and Lenin Connolly perhaps had the greatest influence on me in terms of becoming a Communist. It's sad that outside Ireland and the UK he is largely unheard of because his work on colonialism and nationalism is just as important as Fanon in my opinion.

I may not be a Leninist, but Connolly was one of the most badass Marxists to ever live.
