In John Reeds book 10 days that shook the world, he outlines how at a meeting the Bolsheviks were to decide with the workers wether or pursue armed struggle. Now, of all of the Bolshevik leadership (Stalin not among the pertograd leadership, I suppose) only Lenin and Trotsky voted in favour of the armed struggle. The rest of the "Old Bolsheviks, notably Kamenev and Zinoviev (who even ratted out this decision to the bourgeois press!), were against it initially. Then, according to Reed, a Proletarian stood up and voiced the sentiments of the workers,peasants and soldiers of Russia, that they wanted armed struggle and that if the Bolshevik party would not support them on this, they did not represent their (I paraphrase) interests. Afterwards, with the proletariats support behind armed revolution, the old bolshevik leaders relented and "supported" the revolution.



The quote of Reed's book in the HU group is rather unforunate as Stalin himself denied the "fact" Reed presented in his book was true in his writting Trotskyism or Leninism and it was rpoven to be a myth.
