i don't share your pessimism about the youth, though I admit I don't know the details about conditions in Eastern Europe right now -- but i suspect they are not as bleak and uniform as you feel. There are always advanced forces (everywhere in society) -- even if they don't always have a connection to revolutionary communism and the class struggle.

We have very close agreement on this. I was in Prague and Bratislava during the Soviet occupation (Husak Rusak!) and participated (very briefly) in some of the mass resistance to soviet social imperialism. I also smuggled in some red books and distributed them among politically active Czech students. I also followed the MLPD closely in the 1970s (but that is a whol other story). Nice to be in touch with you!

Have trust in the youth! They will come around... but perhaps not through the forms and ways we expect.
