Interesting, but your claim that environmentalism is inherently Malthusian is just wrong. You can see here a Marxist and a Malthusian arguing over the issue of environmental sustainability--see especially the last post, which makes clear the dichotomy between a population solution and a consumption habits solution to environmental waste:

Thanks. I would definitely encourage you to check out some stuff like this and this for another perspective. I think it is a really bad idea to write off environmentalism altogether; in fact, I see it as one of the most pressing reasons to replace capitalism with a planned economy.

I just think that environmentalism, like LGBT rights and every other kind of progressive issue, has been twisted and will continue to be twisted by bourgeois apologists. But that doesn't make them right.

    Hi Vanguard,

I've been getting more and more disgusted with the way the environmental and "population" concerns are used by the most polluting countries on the planet as a bludgeon against the aspirations of the developing world--what are the best books/articles/websites you've read for exposing how this happens? I'm wondering if there's a really good book out there, kind of like Edward Said's "Culture and Imperialism", only instead about the relationship between environmentalism and imperialism.

I totally agree with you in your arguments with Augustwest and co. It's just amazing how they refuse to answer the simple question about whether or not, since they believe workers in America are consuming too much, they should be made to consume less, i.e. lower their material living standards. It's crazy.

Just to emphasize - I am not a Maoism Third-Worldist. I knew how to answer those questions because I find reading about the tendency interesting, not because I accept MIM's ideas. I agree that Maoism Third-Worldism is anti-working class.
