The 1930's were a time of industrialization. Educational access and suchlike rose, but living standards remained quite low since the vast majority of efforts were directed towards economic construction. This industrialization, however, made subsequent economic growth (and adequate fighting capabilities against Hitler's armies) possible.

I've never heard any leftist claim that Stalin was really worse than Hitler. Hitler's explicit goal was to give Germany "breathing room" by invading and establishing hegemony over other countries, building up a war economy to accomplish this, and targeting various groups (Jews, Roma, Slavs, etc.) for extermination. The worst one could say about Stalin in regards to "mass death" stuff is the Ukrainian famine (which coexisted with other famines at the time) and the Great Purges, neither of which could be compared to the Holocaust in any way.

Both "Stalinism" and Marxism-Leninism are vague terms. The former can apply to literally every single self-declared "socialist" state on earth in the last century, while the latter can almost entirely apply to the same amount of countries.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask; I'm not going to bother to reply in the thread which has degenerated like all others into Stalin vs. Trotsky.

"Almost 15% of the population here is voting for the fascist party spreading this sick ideology. They need to be stopped. Perhaps some of these people can be reasoned out of this fascist ideology."

Ja er zitten hier best veel Nederlanders, zelfs een aantal moderators komen uit NL.
Desondanks is het Nederlandstalige subforum niet populair, ik post er zelf ook niet.

    Veel plezier op de site!
  5. Well not exactly, although I think I know what you mean. Getting into leftist politics can be something which can bring one happiness (or sadness for that matter) due to the fact that you are attempting to better the lot of your fellow working men. It wasn't that I was selfish when I was an anarchist, just that I used tactics which were not effective. I began to realize that to change the world we need a different form of organizing (ie: a communist party, Internationale, etc.) rather than me and my friends running around at night spray painting shit and going to the occasional protest.
  6. Indeed, I have only been interested in the radical left (seriously) for about the past year. For a while I was an insurectionary anarchist and was involved in some petite-bourgeois individualism; but recently have returned to the Marxist method and am attempting to build on my knowledge. While there is alot of shit posters on this site, there are a few good ones who make the stay worth it and educational.
  7. Feel free to shoot any of them my way; Marxism (when you first get into it) can seem like a daunting task to comprehend. The only thing to do is to chip away at it piece by piece, attempt to further our knowledge day by day.
  8. I just replied in your thread.
  9. Give me a second to check out your thread.
  10. Which is a good and valid thought to have; what I would say though, is that the origin of that line of reasoning can be traced back to the liberal notion of "power corrupts," a notion which I highly disagree with, but this is another discussion entirely. I guess, honestly, whether or not those interests have a possibility of diverging after the seizure of state power, is a political question you will have to decide for yourself. However if you are ever looking for a discussion, or clarification on something you have been thinking about, don't hesitate to ask.
