Yes, that was a mistaken opinion on their part. It was the view of the proto-left communists, which is now correctly denounced as a mistake(hopefully starting to see a pattern here).

Ismail has been showing me a lot of material, solid historical fact, not superficial stalinist propaganda, which shows pretty unambiguously that Trotsky was a bumbling idiot and a Menshevik who occasionally got things right and usually had to be bullied by Lenin into choosing the correct action.

The more I read about Trotsky, the more of an idiot I think he was tbh. He did ok in managing the red army, but when it came to actual strategy, he seemed to be poor. He actually was against the treaty of Brest-Litovsk.

When the going got tough, he usually fell back on his pseudo-revolutionary phrase mongering and reactionary sloganeering.
