I don't know much about the Chicago local (the most active person from Chicago on a national level is a bit of a curmudgeonly old social democrat, one of the last few in the Party), but they could definitely use a bit of a youth presence. My suggestion would be to organise locally first (like a campus group perhaps?), then come to a local meeting en force

To start an official SPUSA local the group needs a Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer which have to be members of the SPUSA. I believe if someone is under 18, legally, you have to get gaurdian consent. However I believe they can join the youth league without parental consent and vote at the meetings. The people who attend the meetings don't have to be members, but they can't vote. And someone doesn't even have to be a socialist to be in the SPUSA. In our local, we have communists, anarchists, marxists/non-marxists, leninists and democratic socialists which I think is pretty rad. Well that sucks about the Chicago meeting. I believe there is the Communist Party of Chicago, not affiliated with CPUSA, that is active and somewhat "youthful" lol. Glad to hear your trying to get momentum going. If you wanted to start a SPUSA local, all you need is three people. If you wanted to do that, you might even be able to get funding/help from the state party. I like SPUSA cuz it is multi-tendency, but I'd see if you wanted to go "independent" or whatever. I'll keep ya posted if I hear anything across the border. Speaking of there is a rally at the Milwaukee county courthouse on oct. 23 to protest the murder of a trans-gender or something. Someone hear on revleft is organizing around it. good luck!
