DNZ recommended that your group add on a "Classical" prefix so as to show the differences between the "Revolutionary Marxist" group and your own "[Classical] Marxist" group. What is your take on this? It is for you to decide, however.

Hey, great thread that Economics 101: FAQ.

I didn't want to comment in the thread, because it strictly concerns I minor issue. This quote:"illusions of the monetary system...arise from the failure to perceive that money, through a physical object with distinct properties, represents a social relation of production"

I believe "through" is supposed to be "though." I normally wouldn't make it a point to correct such a minor thing, but it seems to really affect the meaning of the sentence, and your post is so well organized and thorough, I thought the half a minute it would take to edit it seemed worth it.

Will take the time to read the comments of that thread, and maybe contribute in the next couple of days. Anywho, good work, I really appreciate it. Been wanting to get sort of deep into Marxian economics. Would be nice if it could be tied to current economic issues, too.

If it is, then he can continue thinking so. I chose it because I've come to agree with various analyses put forward by Marx, while also gaining an appreciation for some of the contributions made to his theories after he passed away. It's strange, but a lot of what I came up against in terms of Occupy, basic outreach, and my time with different groups and organizations moved me to reassess and evaluate my earlier beliefs (I hate using that word, but whatever). I started reading up on various theoretical topics ranging from the party to economics, and found that I agreed more so with Marx and Engels than I did before (including various others).

I never said "fuck the workers" i quoted you telling me what you think i think. I don't want to "fuck the workers over" i want to convince them of communism.
"You don't seem to understand democracy. You want dictatorship" Correct, i want a party dictatorship, i am a communist. So i don't pretend to be a "phony socialist". You are a utopian socialist if you honestly believe that everyone who is a "worker" (whatever your conception of this word is) based solely on his class status, will or should be the ones to build working class socialist democracy. I believe in a hierarchically organized party to organize the working class and take over the state, you believe the working class should do it itself, fine.

On a separate note, great job trying to rejuvenate the economics sub forum. It desperately needs a shot in the arm. I'm going to try and post more to your 'Economics 101' thread when I have time.

Lol, I've had this as my 'tendency' for over a couple months now! I'm surprised you're just now noticing.

As for why? Chalk it up to a combination of experiences and a renewed interest in the work(s) of Marx and Engels. I identify, first and foremost, with their methods of analysis - as well as their conclusions. Why?

Did you receive the PM I just sent? I'm been having internet trouble for a while and occasionally users tell me that they don't receive my PMs.

There isn't much to it other than workers' councils managing certain affairs, so I don't think there is too much sophisticated writings on the subject. I learned most of these things on An Anarchist FAQ. Anyway, Workers' Councils and the Economics of a Self-Managed Society by Paul Cardan, or Workers' Councils by Anton Pannekoek may be what you're looking for (but these are well known so you may already know them).

How do expect to have democracy in a Socialist society? How can there exist a political system, democracy, in a communal, class-less society where politics don't exist? How does that even make sense? And why are Socialism and Dictatorship incompatible, if the road to Socialism according to Marxism is the dictatorship of the proletariat? A dictatorship of one class over the rest can't possibly be democratic, it can only be undemocratic. Proletarian democracy is democratic only for the proletariat and that's no real democracy. At this point, the only meaning of "democracy" is bourgeois-democracy.

And comrade, perhaps a democracy fetish and not a party fetish will take us further away from our ultimate goal. Democracy is a means, not an end.
