Yea, I used to be obsessed by WS Burroughs, I've read everything he's ever written, plus have an original version of 'Naked Lunch' first published under the title 'Dead Fingers Talk', anyway -Welcome!

I go to school in Easton, PA, so I try to pay attention to what's going on in Philadelphia to the best of my ability (even though I'm more tied to NYC for several reasons.)

    Yes, I am.

John is a great guy, and he deserves a lot of credit. He works his ass off. As far as I know, Socialist Action IS the explicitly Socialist group active in Philadelphia, although I am sure there are others. The organize a lot of demonstrations. I'm not sure about the turn out though. It is a fairly large city. Are you from the area?

Only the first name, but I've met him a couple times. I'm trying to get a sense of what groups are active in Philadelphia, and Socialist Action seems to be the one that I come across often (though that might be because they post a lot to mailing lists)

I used to be involved with Socialist Action Philadelphia, as a matter of fact! I left the group though, for multiple reasons, some theoretical but mostly personal reasons. I am still on the e-mailing list, and I am subscribed to the paper, so I try to keep up with them.

Do the names John Kirkland, Jason Joyce, or Michael Schreiber ring a bell?

Noticed your post on the supposed docker's strike against Honduran goods. Who are the "local Trots" in your area? I know Socialist Action and Workers Power have people in Philadelphia, so I'm curious as to who you've run into.

"Social Democracy ... contented itself with assigning the working-class the role of the savior of future generations. It thereby severed the sinews of its greatest power. Through this schooling the class forgot its hate as much as its spirit of sacrifice. For both nourish themselves on the picture of enslaved forebears, not on the ideal of the emancipated heirs." -Walter Benjamin
