  1. Yo. I was looking through the Trotskyist user group and noticed you posted asking if there was anyone with experience in the British section of the CWI. Back when I was a member, I met an English comrade at the CWI summer school, who posts here under the handle 'giantmonkeyman'. If you're looking for info on SPEW he's probably your best bet. Though, I must admit that I think rushing into joining an organization before having a good grasp on Lenin & Trotsky's work, would be a mistake. I'd also state that, in my view, the CWI is essentially a social-democratic organization, with ostensibly 'Trotskyist' politics. Cheers.

At the moment, the last thing revolutionary socialists need is to be too picky about who they work with. Things around Corbyn seem to be where most of the current activity is. A new activist organisation called Momentum has just been set up. Maybe that would be a good home for Marxists?

Hiya. I have to confess that I'm currently unaffiliated at the moment. I was in the SWP for twenty years but dropped out, not because of anything the party did, but because I became disillusioned and bored with the 'routine'. Since then, the SWP has gone through a messy rape scandal and lost a lot of membership and is probably in the worst state its been ever. I'm afraid that I'm a bit old and jaded but things do seem to be looking a bit more promising for the left: after years of atrophy new things seem to be developing. I wouldn't want to dampen your enthusiasm and I think the best thing to do is to get involved in an organisation that is locally active for you and allows you to combine with like-minded souls who want to do something. This could be the active branch of a party, or something looser.

Yes, I do I dislike the whole concept of a super rich guy using his money to play vigilante... but it is entertaining!

Well, it certainly wasn't my intention to got you join the IMT

To be frank, the CWI and IMT are two drops of water in many respects. The fact that they aren't one organisation today tells you a lot about the dogmatic issues both groups have and indeed Trotskyism as a tradition has.

    But hey, you have fun

Good to know that you work there

About the CPGB focus on unification: They aim for programmatic unity. If sections follow a different programme, then a split would be justified. This is what happened in the RSDLP for example, despite that they had disagreements within the Bolsheviks and debated them publically.

The CPGB indeed also aims to transform the workers movement. However, because the far left is so weak in the Netherlands, their strategic aim is to unite the far left first around a communist programme. Only then can the left begin to make a dent in the wider movement. So, there's a difference between "transforming the workers movement" and "transforming the far left sect landscape".

In the Netherlands we at least have the Socialist Party, which has strong radical roots in activism. We can therefore work directly to win the SP for communist ideas.
