Yeah i'm a left wing nationalist in the Marxist-Leninist sense i guess. I hate the face that many far left Communists and of course Anarchists completely piss on National Liberation movements like the PIRA, INLA, ANC, PLO, etc. Those movements where inspired by both Socialism and left wing nationalism. Although Pearse was a nationalist many of his ideas for Ireland after the revolution where Socialist in nature. And National Liberation movements have been alot more successful lately then left Communists and Anarchists.

Connolly was a Marxism but much like Lenin he adopted Marxism to Ireland's material conditions of the time. He knew he had to have the volunteers on their side but Connolly was interested in spreading the revolution to Britain and countries in Africa. He was both a internationalist and a left wing nationalist

On the issue on Irish sovereignty in international Communism Ireland would be no different then other countries. They would retain their full autonomy as that is the only way any country can live in peace. We must respect each other's autonomy while recognizing our differences and celebrating our different cultures.

I just see a Irish 32 country Socialist Republic as the prairie spark that will set the fire as Mao would have said. If the Socialist revolution goes off in a fully industrialized Capitalist economy like Ireland that would certainly change things in the west and throughout the world. As a example I think if the Spartacus uprising had succeeded in Germany which was a advanced Capitalist country at the time or even the near revolution in France during 1968 had succeeded 20th century Socialism would have looked alot different.

Well you don't hear much about it in the Canadian history books that's for sure. We are also the only place that had a rebellion of it's own connected to the United Irishmen rebellion. Here's a article on it and yeah i know it's wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Irish_Uprising

As for the question of a United Irish Socialist Republic i more or less go by Connolly and also Lenin's view on left wing nationalism that these Socialist countries will only be the start of it and the tide will turn pretty quickly especially if a advanced Capitalist country goes Socialist. The conditions that exist now in the world favor Communism more then ever the only thing lacking is the will. If a advanced Capitalist nation such as Ireland had a Socialist revolution i could easily see it spreading to Britain and the rest of the west as well as the rest of the world.

Hmm well here is some quick reading on a early Anarchist or Primitive Communist society that was in the same general part of the island as i grew up in. http://anarchysecessionsubsistence.b...rless-men.html . That is pretty damn spot on from the stories I've heard from many of the older guys and from what can be looked up easily in the history books. My dad knew the stories well and so did my grandpa plus my history teacher who was kind of a Socialist told us about them as well. Here is one of the founded and best known of them http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/kerrivan_peter_4E.html . They where basically made up of Irish escaping the Royal navy or the equally brutal conditions on the plantations.

I'll try to dig up some recent stuff when i get the time.

Newfoundland did not join Canada until 1949 so we had more time to grow as a distinct place sort of. Our province was influenced far more by Irish and British culture rather then Canada up until confederation. We are the only place outside of Ireland itself to have a official name in Irish. Talamh an Éisc which roughly translates into the Land of the fish. Also alot of the people on this part of the island where either Irish people who where indentured servants aka the nice way of saying slavery or those pressed into the Royal Navy. With all this came the same sectarian tensions that where responsible for bringing them here to begin with. Our last Prime Minister when we where a Dominion of Britain was a Orangeman who was corrupt as fuck and was nearly killed by a mob so go figure.

There was just as much of that whole sectarian nonsense here years ago too and up until maybe 1990 Catholics couldn't go to Protestant schools and vice versa in this province ffs. I remember they had to make a exception for a classmate of mine otherwise his parents would have had to drive him 2 hours everyday to the nearest Protestant school which is completely fucked. Not only was it discriminatory towards both Catholics and Protestants but also towards people of other faiths such as Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. You still hear the scattered old bastard saying something like fuckin Prods or in other areas of the province fuckin Catlicks but thankfully that's almost dead and i hope it dies out completely in my lifetime. I always thought Bog Trotter was a slur against Newfoundlanders in general until someone told me it was actually a insult used against Irish people. Here in Canada it seems to be used more against Newfoundlanders whether they are Irish, British, French or what have you.

Ah yeah that makes sense. Funny but one time when i was at a pub in downtown St.John's this guy says to me "Your Irish ain't ya?". I didn't clock his accent but i assumed he was either a townie who had never heard someone from as far down the bay as me talk or was from mainland Canada cause about 8 times out of 10 my accent get's mistaken for either a Irish one or sometimes a Scottish one. I told him where i was from and he said "Yeah but your ancestors are from Ireland though aren't they?" and when i told him yes he said "I'm a Orange Proddy myself but i like you Irish your alright" lol. Turns out he was from Derry originally but i thought he was from Newfoundland and wouldn't have known the difference if he hadn't of told me.

Where not the PUL formed during the whole flag flap in Belfast over the taking down of the Union jack over city hall or am i thinking of a totally different group altogether? Maybe i am because i certainly can't see abunch like that learning Irish though many people in the 6 counties who are on the Unionist side do know Irish according to what i have heard so who knows. They used to teach Irish here at the University in my province and still do on and off. It acted not only as a way for the people of this province to learn a language other then English or French but also acted as a way for people to learn about the real history of this island and how it was founded. Actually on this part of the island Newfoundland Irish (which apparently was much like Munster Irish) was spoken far more then English up until about sometime during the 19th century i think.

Now there's a coincidence. She's not one to pick a argument with i'll put it that way lol. By IRA thugs i meant the undesirables who use the movement for their own gain of course. The opportunists who seem more interested in controlling and profiting from the local drug trade and other black market industries to finance their own bank accounts then helping the Socialist revolution. I actually do have hopes for Socialism in Ireland as with religion pretty much now dead (on the Catholic side atleast) sectarianism isn't as much of a issue anymore. I do admit to really hating the Orange Order not only for what they did in Ireland but also to my own province as we would most likely be a independent country now instead of a part of Canada if not for the British Protestant elite that existed here back in the not so good old days. Thankfully noone here cares about religion anymore really except a few old people still clinging onto the past.
