  1. Sweet! What kind of a job?
  2. I had a dream last night that I was at the beach by the train tracks, and all the sudden a red train came by and on the back of it in big white letters, it said "KALINSKY". WTF is KALINSKY? It was weird, I don't remember ever having had a dream where I've read something before that.
  3. I have half a mind to beat you over the head with a grogger.

  5. my question is thus; what has the humankind done to deserve to have share the earth with something as repugnant as the duck-billed platypus? the end is nigh
  6. Basically, he attempts - in a short amount of space (620 pages) - to trace the history of mass movements and societies in general throughout human history, the rise of class society, and up to the present time - to show that, contrary to the way history tends to be taught, that it isn’t the great men and leaders who shape history and the world but the unnamed masses fighting behind (and in front of) them and against them who do this. I am not that far into it yet, but so far it is quite good. It starts out examining/debunking the dominant ruling class idea that we are at “the end of history” - where, we are told, the possibility of systemic change and mass uprisings are a thing of the past, and it also dissects the idea that greed and selfishness and competition are intrinsic components of “human nature”. A pretty good read so far, in spite of my terrible attention span.

  8. I am reading "A People's History of the World" by Chris Harman. I realize he was from the SWP, which became even grosser with their endorsement of Labour, but it is still an interesting book, even though I have to make this qualifier every time I tell someone that I am reading it
How about you; what are you reading?
  9. Holla!

Not too much, drinking cold coffee, reading random shit, avoiding the ComradeMan anti-Semitism thread shitstorm because I get too angry to even argue over it anymore. Exciting, I know.

    Sup with you, girl?

I think what makes them so controversial essentially boils down to their position on 'anti-imperialism,' which only became a hot button issue for first-world leftists in the 60's, which was just after the collapse of the labor movement, and the 'death of the left', where essentially the extent of political action for first-world leftists was limited to support for third-world liberation movements.

That this point remains such an important issue for people in the first world is a testament to how much the spectre of 60's New Left politics still lingers. What gets neglected in all of this is what could we do to rebuild a threat to capitalism in our own countries.
