Pro-communist anime

Does anyone know of any pro-communist anime out there?

You'll struggle on that one. Little anime, particularly in this age, is likely to be overtly pro-communist; apart from the capitalist cultural hegemony in the West, nowadays there's so much of an emphasis on commercialism and consumerism that you won't find much themes of anything political.

Hayao Miyazaki is the closest you'd get, as a leftist and one-time Communist who explores communistic and other somewhat leftist (particularly feminism and ecological) themes in his older films particularly, often in a fairly subtle but effective way.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is also quite interesting - it's in non-communist terms a superb series anyway (everyone, regardless of whether they like anime, needs to watch LotGH), but it does as part of its story (the main series alone is 110 episodes long) deal a strong critique of the bourgeoise form of Parliamentary democracy, and explores the issue of (genuine) democracy against autocracy.

However, generally you aren't going to find any overtly pro-communist anime. Even if good active communists were producing it, anime is ultimately a form of mass media; if it attempts to indoctrinate, it will do so subtlely, as the case with (for example) Soviet cultural propaganda. There's little of interest to communists and socialists on political terms in anime particularly now, and even in a scenario of cultural hegemony.

Politics may be the most important thing in life, but it's not the only thing.

Perhaps it would be better to look for Communist friendly anime. Sometimes I will watch an anime that so blatantly disgusts me I can't bring myself to watch anymore of it.

As a add on to this question, do you guy think that Code Geass is pro communist? The hero in the story try to lead a rebellion( or revolution) against an enemy that is anti- democracy and is against equal sharing of wealth

The politics are never too clear except for the desire for National Liberation and his primary motivation is revenge and many in his army are primarily motivated by Japanese Nationalism.

Most are motivated by National Liberation, a small group(which he absorber) where motivated by Japanese Nationalism. You are right the politics are not stated in balck and white, but they try to show him fighting for equality while the people who he fight against are supporters of Social Darwinism. In fact his Lelouch fighting force is the most international group out of ever one, he has people form Britannian, Japan and other nations. And if revenge is a problem then I have one to, as I am also out for revenge, revenge against the capitalist.

Not pro-communist, but definitely anti-capitalist. Also, an amazing show. Totally worth a watch.

I wouldn't say Code Geass is anti-capitalism. It's anti-imperialist, but also nationalist, and to some extent royalist.

There's a Russian anime called First Squad that's set in the Soviet Union during WWII. It's a action movie, and not really political, but it's a good watch

I fully agree. It portrays leftist themes in a good way.
