“Complete and final victory on a world scale cannot be achieved in Russia alone; it can be achieved only when the proletariat is victorious in at least all the advanced countries, or, at all events, in some of the largest of the advanced countries. Only then shall we be able to say with absolute confidence that the cause of the proletariat has triumphed, that our first objective—the overthrow of capitalism—has been achieved.

We have achieved this objective in one country, and this confronts us with a second task. Since Soviet power has been established, since the bourgeoisie has been overthrown in one country, the second task is to wage the struggle on a world scale, on a different plane, the struggle of the proletarian state surrounded by capitalist states.

This situation is an entirely novel and difficult one.

On the other hand, since the rule of the bourgeoisie has been overthrown, the main task is to organise the development of the country.”

I've understood it as meaning a policy of allowing industrialization to build and the implementation of the dictatorship of the proletariat in a country after a revolution. It specifically seems to refer to Stalin's plan of industrialization of the Soviet Union, taking a relatively undeveloped country and making it stand up against the industrialized giants of the West at that time. Trots and left comms like to say this makes us "nationalists", which is just bullshit. We Marxist-Leninists are still vehemently internationalist and the build up of socialism in a country should be done alongside supporting revolutions across the globe.

Smartest thing I have heard all day. Basically you must develop socialism in one country so you can create a strong foothold for socialist revolution to spread from.

QUITE CLEARLY the Russian Working Class thought so too. Perhaps we need to start our own agenda, think about why workers in capitalist countries ...

    Did not want revolution!

Well why didn't they? Not their cup of tea, perhaps? Do they have an aversion to 'ism's' perhaps? After all the drove their home grown Fascism off our streets.
There may very well be a mundane answer. Since 1917 Capitalists and Colonialists had been living in abject terror. Too few of their nightmares came true. Some did however. Maybe we have to concentrate on what has worked and go on to inform our practice and see what might work.

Many of capitalist countries had/have strong histories and traditions in the working class of attempted revolutions, revolts, and uprisings with a communist bent. The Communist Party USA was gaining large membership and spearheading some urban uprisings during the great depression. Japan has a strong communist history in some regions and there were massive uprisings in the early 20th century. One problem is the strength and scale of the capitalist state and the lengths to which the class will go to suppress such challenges to their existence.

What "uprisings" did the CPUSA organize? I was under the impression that they were a consistently lame and de facto reformist party after the early 30's.
