Ok, I'm looking to expand my own libary of republican books, specifically with books that cover the positions of the IRSM. I'm not lookin for books on the leaders or ideals of '16 since my da already has a lot of those, which he has always encouraged me to borrow anyways. Though that said I'm intrested in anything that might be more obscure? I've read 'Voices From the Grave' before anyone recomends that.

Liam Mellows the Irish Revolution by Desmond Greaves is a great one.

I'll try and get a copy. The Connolly Association used to have a great bookshop in London, but it closed and unfourtunately now its harder to get good books.

Get the life and times of James Connolly by Desmond Greaves.
Also get Connollys writings which is a must, the likes of Labour in Irish History and The Re-conquest of Ireland.
Also id suggest looking for ones with Marx and Engels writings on Ireland because after reading their positions on Ireland it is quite good at demolishing trendy leftist positions on Ireland.
As for IRSM specific books there are very few, the only one that springs to mind is Deadly Divisions.
Its far from accurate in certain areas but gives a rough outline of the movement if your willing to sift through the pigshit.
If you want to understand the actual politics and brief history of the the IRSM id suggest you read the Ta Power document, its the foundations of our movement.
As for wider Republican books id suggest ones like A secret history of the IRA or The Lost Revolution, especially the latter, gives a good account of the ORM with the obvious bias's and prejudices.

I've read Dirty Divisions.. well I didn't finish it, it seemed the authors were taking a position against the IRSM and weren't willing to be very objective. I've also read the Ta Power document. I've got a couple of cousins coming over next week so I'm gonna ask to borrow anything recomended (already asked bout Lost Revolution) but I wouldn't mind some ideas on stuff I could ask them to buy.

The IRSM hasn't put out a collection of essays or anything has it? Shame there is no obvious office in London.

Cara, im pretty sure the RSM did release a collection of essays, have a look here
http://www.cafepress.co.uk/rsmshop

Also have a look at Revolution in Ireland: Popular Militancy, 1917-1923 by Conor Kostick. Great book about Working Class struggle in Ireland at that time.

'Memories of 1981' is a small book written by Republican Socialists about the hunger stikes. Its not really about the RSM but its nice to read a book where the RSM's contribution isnt airbrushed out or ignored.

There is no branch of the IRSP in London at the moment, but they are going through a period of reorginisation and expansion, so get in touch with them via their website and im sure they will get back to you. Im in London myself and was in touch with them recently. Im sure there is great potential for the RSM in London and in England generally.

Yeah, great pity that closed down. There is a great Irish Library in the Hammersmith Irish Centre though. Huge colllection of books. Just go along with some ID and proof of address and you can start lending. Loads of stuff there you wouldnt get on the high street or on Amazon.

It's a shame rsm resorted to getting a cafepress shop, the amount cafepress charge they'd be bettter off producing it themselves and holding onto the dead stock till needed?

I am currently reading 'The lost Revolution' which is great at explaining, at the beginning at least, the ideological base that Republican Socialist politics originated in.

For a good expose on collusion and the Brits' counter-insurgency strategy I would reccomend 'A Very British Jihad' by Paul Larkin. Brilliant read.
