Michael Parenti

  1. Charles Xavier
I figured it would be a good idea to collect all "movies", or rather speeches, that Michael Parenti has made. I've found pretty much of him on YouTube and Google Video, so let's have it:

    The Assassination of Julius Caesar

Diversity & Orthodoxy in the Media - Modern Media Cencorship (Lecture 1)

    The US war on Yugoslavia

    Terrorism, Globalism and Conspiracy

    The Struggle for History

    Race, Gender and Class Struggle

The Gangster Nature of the State
    Part 1 - Part 2

    Lies, War and Empire
    Part 1 - Part 2

    The Political Use of Religion
    Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4 - Part 5 - Part 6

    Myth of the Founding Fathers
    Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 30

    Additions

    Short interview on Tibetian Feudalism

On Venezuela (part 1) (part 2)

Functions of Fascism (part 1) (part 2) (part 3)

    Myth of Under Development

    Support Our Troops?

    Who Owns America?

    Real Democracy

    Functions of Fascism, 2, 3, 4

    Some Labor History

    Corporate Crimes for Corporate Profits
I wanted to repost this here as it is a good resource which I hope isn't overlooked. Michael Parenti is a communist author and lecturer. His historical analysis on ancient Rome and his research on contemporary issues is a great resource.

I think this should be stickied. Let me know if you disagree.

    Hell no. Just kidding.

He has some really cool talks that are available all over the place. I'll add some more later.

Parenti = sex. I'm sorry that I can't add any useful links right now, but just popped in to say that I'm glad you posted this thread.

I started watching these, and love them. My favorite marxist professor swears by Parenti (his son is also worth looking at, do pick up Christian Parenti's "Lockdown America" for a look into the prison system in the US) and I'm greatful for the links. Please add more!!!

I have read a bit of Parenti's works and watched “Terrorism, Globalism and Conspiracy“ and i think he's awesome. Is he by any chance a Marxist-Leninist or is he just a genuine socialist?

    The Author
Parenti is a good author. I have his Inventing Reality which deals with the manipulative nature of Western and American media in particular, and To Kill a Nation which analyzes how NATO imperialism helped to carve up and destroy Yugoslavia and reduce the successor republics to neo-colonialist Third World client-states.

Terrorism, Globalism and Conspiracy is great. I agree with Wanted Man. Parenti does = sex.

Edit: Just listened to Parenti on "The Ganster Nature of the State" and I love how he smacks Chomsky.

I think Parenti is an "overall socialist", and he has his criticism of the "communist states", but focuses more on capitalism and its exploitation as it is a lot more important compared to the last 2-3 'socialist' states we have today. He also agrees that Eastern countries (or, basically all countries that had socialist revolutions) had it much better then than now.

He also have a son who is a journalist, as far as I know. Though I'm uncertain what his son's ideology is.

His son's book is worth reading (Lockdown America).

Needless to say, between Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, and Michael Parenti, Parenti wins hands down.

Hell yeah. Zinn is ok, but obviously his politics are disappointingly toned-down and quite underdeveloped in some places. He refers to the Cold War as "Communism vs Capitalism" in A People's History of American Empire. I realize it's not easy to fill in a lot of information when your using a graphic novel format but come on....the rest of the book is so good and he kind of let me down in that aspect.

Thanks for bumping this, I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Parenti's stuff is usually pretty great.
