i recommend paid hosting , cause free hosts arent rly user-friendly

if u want offshore hosting it would be about 3-5 dollars monthly at a host i found , and 9 dollars monthly for a regular hosting , on a shared hosting plan

virtual private servers would be 35 dollars a month but i dont think we need that , and i even more believe that we cant afford that

to purchase a domain would be 13 dollars , and you pay that amount every year to renew your ownership of domain

about ethical, taken from our marxist perspective , it is completely un-etical

etical would be if we had our own servers in a rack in someone's flat or garage, but now we are limited in supporting capitalist companies and small enterprises :P

forum is very easy to put online , and maintain , well , depends on what software we use , but i know a couple that i personaly can handle on my own without problems

Whats the difference between offshore hosting and regular hosting? And do they have bandwidth limits in case someone attacks us?

well offshore are the "sneaky" ones , they allow some warez linking , and adult content , nulled scripting , and keep informations private , but i consider them less secure.
generaly offshore is any host that is out of yor continent , but when u say offshore , most people mean that allow some of illegal content

regular offer mostly unlimited space and bandwith (bandwith is the limit of how much traffic can be done between website and users) , and are probably more reliable

we are not to worry about bandwith too much if we are not going to host downloadable content , but depending of what hosting solution we choose , we probably wont have to

well about offshore hosts , we would have to look around what solutions are best , because people who use services of offshore hosting companies , often have problem with hackers attack and similar , because they sometimes struggle with security

about forum software , well there is phpbb , smf , mybb , vbulletin , and many more

phpbb , mybb , and smf are quite simple if u can use ftp software and do few things in cpanel (i think that phpbb and mybb offer better modifications to improve forum functionality), while vbulletin is not free , and is bit more complex (there is some stuff about how to make it free , but i cannot write about it on this website)

What about ad revenue, is there much money we get from ad revenue to offset the costs a little? It doesnt seem very expensive so this looks like it could be very benefitial. We're looking at aprox 80 to 130 a year?

i would not like to compromise idea of site with adds. if we want adds that can cover our expenses we would have advertise an internet capitalist enterprise , and im defenitely not for it

lets say that domain cost goes on me entirely , we would have to cut from 4-10 dollars monthly which is not a cost rly if we organize funding well. Basic hosting would be enough for start , untill we organize website . if we would have in some future bigger needs , we can change hosting service

Theres a couple people sitting on domains for http://www.communist.com/ http://www.communist.org/ http://www.communist.net/ and are not using them. I wonder if we can get any of those ones, theres a bunch of other little ones here and there too. I think would be good. http://www.marxist-leninist.com/org/net is free but I'm hoping we can get a more inclusive domain for newcomers who may not understand the term marxism-leninism right off of the bat. Any suggestions?

Comrades, I apologize for not being more involved in the projects. Comrade Shamrock do you have any updates on finding a good host? After we establish a host we should begin a working committee of people who can do the backend work. I am extremely busy with union organizing and political commitments to provide as much attention as I would have hoped right now.

I have more free time to work on this, Who wants to get started with me? The www.communist.org owner wants 1500$ for the website, a ridiculous sum of money. Lets just start with setting up a forum? What is a good forum software to use? We'll start small and move bigger in the future how's that? We can use a free host for now, secure a domain and direct it to our website.

Great over the next day or two I will have something set up and from there I will make a list of tasks we need to do. I think we need to make it something of an Introduction to Socialism and Marxism-Leninism, something that is easily found for people trying to learn about socialism, marxism and communism. It should be a friendly site for information and somewhere where proper discussions can take place between communists.

I managed to get a board domain, it from an old video game forum and I emailed the owner and he gave me his account information. Its already set up so Im going to just clear out the old messages on the forums and I will post the website here so we can start getting to work.
