Do i have to be a big fan of Stalin?

1. The Red Next Door
I am still not a fan of Stalin, but i am starting to have an open minded to, why he did certain things after talking to people. but if i am not a fan does that mean i will be kick out? no i am not a trot.
2. Spawn of Stalin
Stalin was not the embodiment of Marxism-Leninism, he was merely its first great practitioner. If you uphold Marxism-Leninism, you are a Marxist-Leninist.

If you're starting to have an open mind for Stalin's action you might want to give Ludo Marten's "Another View of Stalin" a try. It is a very interesting and helpful read on the problems the early USSR and Stalin were facing, how they were dealt with and at the same time it does away with anti-communist hysteria and loads of lies and fantastic claims about Stalin.

The main thing of being ML is realizing that Kruschev and Brezhnev were losers, that Robert Conquest and Anne Applebaum are apologists for Ukrainian/Polish nazis, and that Anti-Stalinism Hurts Workers, Builds Fascism. The rest is details.

Marxism-Leninism is not a policy of whether you like a leader or not its how to destroy capitalism, strengthen socialism, and build communism.

^ Exactly what CX says.

Leninists are on the ground, organizing and struggling for and with the working class and oppressed - our class - of TODAY and trying to build a socialist future for TOMORROW. We learn from yesterday, but we don't dwell on it, which is the impression one will get around here. You can believe what you want to about historical figures, but in the real world, they don't come up. Because noone we're trying to reach gives a damn about them, we care about food, housing, education, racism, health care, etc. - capitalist oppression and imperialist atrocities, in other words.

A Marxist class analysis and understanding of human needs along with an active dedication to socialist revolution are the only real requirements of being a Leninist. Yet, again, around here a newcomer might easily get the impression that the entire communist movement revolves around what one thinks about Trotsky or Stalin or other revolutionary leaders. But it absolutely does not.

You don't have to be a big fan of Stalin the Man, but I would say that you would need to be a fan of Stalin the leader. And you don't have to agree with everything he did. In fact Stalin the fan of Lenin disagreed with Lenin's NEP. Just as much as Lenin disagreed with Marx's view of capitalism to socialism to communism (Lenin’s view was capitalism to lower communism to higher communism.

As far as I am concerned, one need only be a fan of Marx to be a Marxist, period- no litmus test required. The Stalin argument is one more pointless red herring, much like the endless Castro fanaticism that seems to overtake nearly every other thread on this site. I am more concerned with theory than with unquestioning support toward certain leaders' varied practices of it. As far as I am concerned, it's Marxists for Marx, and have a nice day.

One thing that we should not forget, is that we need to change theory to fit facts, and not facts to fit theory.
