What are we going to do about Australian political apathy and mindless nationalism?

Just what exactly are we going to do about Australian political apathy? All of my friends have no political views whatsoever and the vast majority of my Facebook "friends" list their political views as 'don't give a shit' or 'fuck politics' or something similar. On top of the political apathy there is an extremely large nationalistic (you know, Aussie Pride Slogans and all these Southern Cross tattoos), anti-immigrant (like t-shirts saying "Fuck Off, We're Full") and somewhat racist tendency (most of the time its "those fucking asians are taking our jobs... and they don't even speak English") among Australians. So what do you think we could do about this?

Shit i ask my self that question all the time Duck comrade.

I have resorted to Active activism everywhere i dictate to people and argue a lot. unaware racists, apolitical people, family, randoms, colleagues. basically everyone i meet.

Mindless Nationalism should be attacked hard. Attend Invasion (australia) day protests coming up soon somewhere.

We need to use media, we can get on it by protesting, and controlling and paying media. So far cheap print media and free internet media is what we are using right now as means of educating. Shall we also try missionary like door knocking, mormon style!

I think thats more likely to get us punched in the face and give a generally terrible name to Leftism.

LOL! I think the ISO actually tried that in the 90s. Looking at the bleak state of them now, the results speak for themselves.

Me, I'm not doing much really. I was going to Socialist Alternative branch meetings for a long time (years), but that eventually got on my nerves. I'd like to join an organisation with the perspective, growth and success of Socialist Alternative, but which isn't so darned inward looking and isn't populated by so many irritating, self-righteous left-moralists. Getting that right, I think, is the way forward.

God you said it. They're the workers vanguard without workers. This may be a bit harsh but the organisation is just so heavily based on student fashion it's ridiculous. They tried so hard to recruit me, they called me on my mobile to make sure I was coming to their meetings on tuesday. Then when they learnt I had differing politics they were really quite aggressive at rallies. It was like a completely different group of people. They seem to really hate libertarian socialists.

why do the Socialist Alternative and the Socialist Alliance insist on using the abbreviation SA you whoud think they had more sense than that
  7. romanis
indeed you would think they had more sense than that considering the SA was the predessesor to the SS. the question posed by Tovarish duck is interesting to think about. how did our once politicly aware country become so uncaring towards the system that governs us? . i think it is the 2 party system itself one or the other no real choice no real change same thing different name . people need to be able to see some sort of change or there will be no interest its like watching reruns of mash every afternoon ( boring ) . as for the insane nationalistic tendancy in the youths of today i have no idea where it all sprang from i certainly didnt act like that when i was a teenager ( not to long ago ) perhaps it comes from the almost natural segregation of australian society these days ( whites , aborigianals , asians ,lebanese , african ,and islander ) we all seem to band together and this creates a state of tension which reflects in the way our youth are growing up "mum and dad don't like imigrants so lets go out and bash em". the idolisation of the flag is becoming almost religious in the white youth of today why???? i have no idea but something needs to be done to educate these people

Smash all elements of subtle and appearing fascism in australia!

I call Socialist Alternatives SAlts. Socialist alliance is the true owner of SA

Robotrot, Socialist alternative is also too idealist,
    they also work with communistphobia,
    very anti-stalinist,
they call everything slightly not marxist stalinist
they point out the small differences of socialists and brag about how there should be zero tolerance of such differences.
